Satish Shah, the beloved veteran actor known for his roles in iconic shows and films, passed away on October 25 at the age of 74 in Mumbai. While initial reports suggested that he died due to kidney failure, his co-star Rajesh Kumar clarified that Shah actually succumbed to a sudden heart attack. Kumar stated, "Yes, he did have a kidney issue, but he actually passed away due to a heart attack. He was at home, having lunch, and then he went away. The kidney issue had already been dealt with; it was under control. Unfortunately, it was a sudden cardiac arrest that took him away."
Shah had undergone a kidney transplant earlier this year and was on dialysis, as revealed by his close friend Sachin Pilgaonkar. Pilgaonkar mentioned that Shah was determined to extend his life to care for his wife, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. On the day of his passing, Shah collapsed while having lunch and was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead shortly after.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, stating, "Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Satish Shah Ji. He will be remembered as a true legend of Indian entertainment. His effortless humour and iconic performances brought laughter into countless lives. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."
Satish Shah's career spanned over four decades, during which he became a household name through his memorable performances in shows like Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Ye Jo Hai Zindagi, as well as films such as Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro and Kal Ho Naa Ho. His unique comic timing and ability to connect with audiences made him a cherished figure in Indian entertainment.
His passing has also highlighted the issue of kidney failure, a condition that affects many in India. Experts note that uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure are common causes of kidney failure. Regular check-ups and awareness of early symptoms are crucial for prevention. Dr. Uday Dipakrao Gajare, a nephrologist, emphasized the importance of managing lifestyle diseases and maintaining kidney health through proper hydration, diet, and regular medical evaluations.
Satish Shah's legacy will continue to resonate through his work, and he will be remembered fondly by fans and colleagues alike.
