A pedestrian who was in a travel lane of Interstate 55 was struck by multiple vehicles and killed around 3 a.m. Monday in Tangipahoa Parish, State Police said.
State Police said in a news release that a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe travelling in the left lane hit the person, who for unknown reasons, was in the travel lane. Before emergency crews could respond the scene, an 18-wheeler also hit the pedestrian, State Police said.
The pedestrian's name was withheld pending notification of family.
The fatality happened on I-55 northbound, near Louisiana 40, State Police said in a news release Monday afternoon.
The drivers of the Hyundai and the 18-wheeler were not injured. Routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and the pedestrian for analysis, State Police said.
