BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - More than 750,000 people in Alabama who rely on government assistance to help feed their families will not receive benefits in November .
The Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) confirmed Monday morning that SNAP benefits are suspended because of the ongoing federal government shutdown .
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps millions of Americans afford groceries. Each participant received, on average, $187.40 per month in 2024.
These benefits are funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), but states administer the funds and manage the program.
Alabama DHR said it received guidance from the USDA on Oct. 24 that read in-part, “[The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services (FNS)] is suspending
