BELLE ISLE, Fla. – The discovery of a possible mortar found in a Belle Isle backyard has explosive experts from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on scene investigating the device, according to a news release.
Belle Isle police said “what appears to be a mortar” was located in a backyard of a home off Waltham Avene.

“The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team is currently on scene examining the item,” police said in the release.

Police also said that students at nearby Cornerstone Charter Academy have been relocated inside the school, but there is no immediate threat to residents or students.
