COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTRF) — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has launched a statewide effort to raise awareness about elder abuse and encourage Ohioans to report it.
The campaign addresses a growing problem across the state. One in ten Ohioans age 60 or older experience some form of abuse, but only about 20% of cases are reported, according to estimates.
“There is an epidemic of underreporting,” Yost said during a recent meeting of the Attorney General’s Elder Abuse Commission. “Our elders need to know there is no shame in being victimized.”
At the meeting, Yost introduced a new educational video titled What’s Done in the Dark. The video is a key part of the campaign and will be shown at public events and featured on the Attorney General’s website. It aims to help the public recognize signs
