NCDHHS says SNAP, WIC programs impacted by continuing federal shutdown
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) posted an update on the impact of the continuing federal shutdown on several key assistance programs.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ( SNAP) helps more than 600,000 North Carolina families buy groceries, a number that includes more than 580,000 children. Currently, November benefits have been temporarily paused and about 1,000 households that would have normally receive these benefits by this point have not received them. According to the SNAP enrollment rolls as of April 2025, there were 2,364 participants receiving that benefit in Dare County; 2,152 in Currituck County; and 752 in Hyde County .
