Prominent members of the Muslim community from the Cornwall area provided a lesson on Saturday about the positive impacts that can occur during with integration into mainstream society.

In a detailed telling of their personal experiences, Barbara Helms and Sayed Masodulah Hafizi represented two families that have led the growth of the Muslim community in Cornwall.

They were the guest panellists Saturday of the annual Islamic Heritage Month gathering at the Cornwall Public Library.

Moderator Yousef Vakily said the pair were chosen to reflect this year’s theme, Pioneering Muslim Communities in Canada — Cultivating Spaces for Comfort, Growth, and Learning Over Time.
