A crew member on board P&O Cruises' Arvia ship died after an on board "accident" yesterday

The Port of A Caruña in Spain confirmed on X the ship made an unplanned stop

The ship was on a two-week voyage to Barbados at the time

A cruise ship employee has died following an accident yesterday, a representative for P&O Cruises has confirmed.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE on Monday, Oct. 27, the spokesperson confirmed the death of a crew member “following an accident on board Arvia yesterday.”

They added: “Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends both on board and at home and we are providing every possible support to them.”

Further details about the nature of the incident and the crew member’s death were not immediately available.
