TOLEDO, Ohio — It was Election Day at East Broadway Elementary on Monday, where students took part in a mock election to choose a mascot for the school’s Big Green Garden .
The vote, conducted electronically through a partnership with Kids Voting Ohio, gave both students and staff a chance to cast their ballots. The activity was part of the school’s social studies curriculum and aimed to teach the importance of being informed voters.
“So the kids are doing a vote today, a mock vote for a garden mascot,” said Anita McManus, a seventh and eighth-grade science teacher who also runs the school’s garden club. “They’re choosing the candidate that they think will best represent the garden.”
