Hurricane Melissa, one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic, is approaching Jamaica with sustained winds of 175 mph and gusts reaching over 200 mph.

The hurricane is expected to remain a Category 5 as it moves through Jamaica. Authorities are advising residents to "run from the water and hide from the wind," urging them to move away from the shoreline and take shelter from the nearly 200 mph winds, which span a 30-mile-wide swath.

Once the storm moves back over the water, it is expected to maintain a Category 3 strength, with Cuba in store for landfall as well. Spaghetti models show the storm moving through western Jamaica into eastern Cuba, with winds remaining extremely strong.
