STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Tottenville man charged in the bloody assault of his former girlfriend outside a local bar is headed to prison.

Rasim Velaj, 58, of Fisher Avenue in Tottenville, pleaded guilty last week to second-degree attempted assault and aggravated criminal contempt in connection with the April 18 incident outside an establishment on Amboy Road.

In exchange for his plea, Velaj is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 17 by Justice Lisa Grey in state Supreme Court, St. George, to four to eight years in prison.
