P&O Cruises' Iona ship.

A crew member died onboard a P&O Cruises ship this week.

The cruise line confirmed the death of an employee on its Arvia ship "following an accident on board” on Oct. 26, but did not share additional information.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends both on board and at home and we are providing every possible support to them,” the company said in an emailed statement.

The ship departed from Southampton, England, on Oct. 24 for a cruise to Bridgetown, Barbados, according to CruiseMapper. The itinerary includes scheduled stops in Sint Maarten, St. Kitts, St. Lucia and more.

The Port of A Coruña in Spain said the ship “made a stop in A Coruña following a workplace accident involving a deceased crew member” on Oct. 26 in a translated post on X, formerly Twitter. The vessel was docked from 3 p.m. until that evening, when it left for Tenerife.

The incident is not the only recent crew member death at sea. A Royal Caribbean International crew member died after going overboard from the cruise line’s Icon of the Seas ship in July.

He had allegedly stabbed a fellow employee before jumping off the ship.
