Two people have been killed in an explosion at an underground mine in western New South Wales in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Emergency services were called to a mining site on Endeavour Mine Road at Cobar, about 450km east of Broken Hill, after two people suffered critical injuries on a worksite about 3.45am.
Officers arrived at the scene and were told a man had been confirmed dead after the underground explosion.
Two women were brought to the surface. One has since died.
The second woman has been airlifted to a nearby hospital after suffering shock and hearing damage.
“Emergency services remain at the scene. Police will prepare a report for the Coroner and assist SafeWork NSW in its investigation,” NSW Police said in a statement.
