SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A mother in Springfield is watching a Category 5 hurricane barrel toward her young son in Jamaica. Western Mass News spoke with two Jamaican American International College students who are currently living in Springfield on an academic scholarship keeping tabs on their family on the island as Hurricane Melissa gets closer to shore.
One student told us her son is over there visiting with family so she’s nervous about what could happen when the storm makes landfall. “I talked to my mom this morning. I am very nervous because my son is also there because he was with me and then he’s spending time with my mom. Now the storm is there. I’m feeling anxious. I live around a lot of trees.
