PALATINE, Ill. (WLS) -- A mother and son were found dead inside a north suburban home on Friday night, police said.

Palatine police said officers responded to an apartment in the 1000-block of North Sterling Avenue for a report of an ambulance assist around 9:30 p.m.

Karen Zincke, 84, and her son, 57-year-old David Zincke, who lived in the apartment, were found dead inside, police said. Both suffered apparent gunshot wounds.

Investigators recovered a gun at the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death.

Police are investigating and said there is no threat to the public.
