HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. (WMC) - A federal jury has ruled that former Holly Springs mayor Sharon Gipson is liable for malicious prosecution against the police chief’s administrative assistant.
The verdict, returned October 22, says that the former mayor acted without probable cause and for a malicious purpose when pressing criminal assault charges against Vinita Raimey in 2023. Raimey was later acquitted of her charges.
At the time, Raimey served under Police Chief Grant Glover.
Raimey’s attorneys claim that her wrongful arrest was the result of Gipson’s mission to undermine Glover after he allegedly “resisted her efforts to control the police department.”
