NEW CANAAN, Conn. (WTNH) — A 20-year-old man was in court on Monday after allegedly "bludgeoning" a person to death on Friday in New Canaan, according to the state prosecutor.

Sebastian Van Stockum, 20, appeared in court Monday after he was charged with murder on Friday.

At approximately 10:36 p.m. on Friday, police were dispatched to the area of South Avenue and Gerdes Road for a report of a man yelling in the woods. While officers were responding, dispatch received a call from a man at a home on Gerdes Road stating that he killed his mother.

Arriving police and EMS performed life-saving measures on the victim, who has not been identified. They were later pronounced dead at the scene.
