A small earthquake hit Maryland Monday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed.

The 2.5-magnitude earthquake happened after 5 p.m. in Waterloo, Maryland, just east of Columbia.

An earthquake of that magnitude is very unlikely to cause damage, according to USGS.
