STAMFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Stamford man was arrested Monday after allegedly striking and killing a 12-year-old riding a mini-bike in August.
Juan Carlos Umana-Umana, 41, surrendered at Stamford Police Headquarters on Monday.
He was charged with the following: • Misconduct with a motor vehicle • Felony evading responsibility • Tampering with evidence
The deadly crash took place on Aug. 2 around 8:47 p.m. in the 300 block of Courtland Avenue. According to police, the boy was operating a mini-bike alongside a family member who was driving a scooter.
Investigators say for an unknown reason, the two pulled over to the shoulder of Courtland Avenue. Shortly after, a vehicle struck the mini-bike, causing the 12-year-old operator to be thrown from it.
