SAINT PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Safety will promote a sworn trooper later this year to work with Capitol Security as a specialized threat investigator, as threats against state officials continue to rise exponentially.
At an Advisory Committee on Capitol Area Security meeting on Monday, State Patrol Lt. Col. Jeremy Geiger told lawmakers that threats against state elected officials and commissioners have more than doubled this year, jumping from 19 threat investigations in 2024 to 50 investigations so far in 2025. Geiger said that 13 of the cases this year have been forwarded for criminal charges, while others remain under investigation.
