HILLIARD, Ohio — Some residents in Hilliard are raising concerns about Amazon’s plan to add fuel cells to power one of its local data centers.

The company plans to install over 200 fuel cells at its facility off Scioto Darby Creek Road. According to the City of Hilliard, the project has already been approved by the Ohio Power Siting Board, and officials recently learned that Amazon does not need the city’s approval to move forward.

“We were told there is nothing we can do about it, their total jurisdiction,” Hilliard City Council member Les Carrier said.

Hundreds of homes surround the data center, and many nearby residents say they’re worried about what the addition of the fuel cells could mean for their neighborhood.
