COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Some University of South Carolina students are living in hotels after flooding damaged apartments at the Gateway 737, a brand-new off-campus housing complex that opened in August.
The flooding occurred on Sunday when a leak in an overhead sprinkler on the third floor spread water down to the second floor. According to Holder Properties, the management company, seven apartments were impacted by the water damage.
USC student Leah Lacovara was studying for a Spanish test in her apartment when she and her roommate were warned about the flooding.
“We were outside the door and we see, I think, maybe like an inch or two of water encroaching just down the hallway and flowing down towards our room,” Lacovara said.
