A major Melbourne hospital has been accused of discrimination after ordering its emergency department to fast-track treatment of Indigenous patients.
All First Nations patients at St Vincent's hospitals have now been assigned 'Category Three' status, which expedites medical assessment and treatment within 30 minutes of arrival in the emergency department.
However, the Victorian Opposition has described the scheme as blatant discrimination.
Shadow health minister Georgie Crozier said it was a glimpse of what would occur on a larger scale if the government’s Treaty legislation passes parliament.
