Robert Horning fired his gun three times at his younger brother, Carl Horning , early last year on the family property in what a Washington County prosecutor described in court Monday as the culmination of a bitter dispute that boiled down to money.
The state detailed its case against Horning , 65, as the trial got underway in Washington County Circuit Court.
Horning faces allegations of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon for killing his 47-year-old brother on the morning of Jan. 2, 2024, at Horning’s Hideout, the family’s popular recreational and event venue off U.S. 26 near North Plains.
The case centers on the curdled relationship between the brothers over the ownership structure and revenues of Horning’s Hideout, which they owned with their mother, Jane.
