KINGSTON, Jamaica (KNWA/KFTA) — A Fayetteville resident is keeping close watch as Hurricane Melissa approaches Jamaica.
Former Jamaican Olympian Dominique Blake says her family and loved ones are on the island and have no choice but to prepare the best they can to ride this out.
Blake says her family and friends are from Kingston, Jamaica, and are not expected to be hit as hard by the hurricane.
"The island is so beautiful. We're known for the sunshine, Reggae music and sports. You know, I'm an athlete, I'm an Olympic athlete. So everything that is tied to Jamaica from me is just from early childhood," Blake said.
Blake was born in the United States but moved to Kingston, Jamaica, at the age of one, where she spent her childhood.
