GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - State health officials announced that the food benefits for 1.4 million North Carolinians will be delayed if the government shutdown continues.
With food insecurity looming, people in Pitt County and surrounding areas met today to find ways to help. More than 14,000 households in Pitt County alone are at risk of not receiving aid if the government shutdown continues.
With the next benefit distribution date approaching, more than 100 people gathered at First Christian Church to discuss how to help.
Many are asking what comes next as the risk of November food benefits being delayed grows because of the government shutdown.
