Thousands of people are relying on funds from the state for recovery after an ice storm in March left them without power, or even a home.
While the state has received funding for them, last week FEMA denied the state’s appeal for Public Assistance Category F funding and Individual Assistance.
Emmet County Emergency Manager Matthew Blythe tells us that Individual Assistance is based on how much damage is done to, primary living quarters, and Emmet County’s about 40% second and third homes, so they didn’t meet the the cutoff for number of primary residences that were critically or majorly damaged within the storm.
There is still finding though. Rep. Parker Fairbairn shared that there is $50 million in funding from the Feds. There was also $10 million in provisions passed in the state budg
