Connecticut has multiple large Jamaican communities, especially in the Greater Hartford towns and cities.

“It’s very rich, it’s like everywhere you go, you see a Jamaican,” said David Harris, who was born on the island, but now lives in East Hartford.

On Tuesday, a Category 5 hurricane is expected to make landfall on the small island nation.

Harris, like many other Jamaicans living in Connecticut, still has ties to the island and says he’s waiting to see what happens. He says his father-in-law had to evacuate after a mandate.

“The trajectory of the hurricane is going to be like pretty much between where I’m from and where my wife is from,” he said.
