OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - We are now 27 days into this government shutdown, the second longest in American history.
And over the weekend, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced SNAP food assistance benefits will not be issued on November 1.
Federal and non-federal employees are feeling the brunt as we get closer to marking a full month of the government shutdown, and support services are seeing an increase in users.
“Our 211 Center has seen an uptick in calls, and we have gotten more calls specific to, ‘hey, I’m afraid I’m not getting my paycheck. What do I do?’” Beth Oswald, CEO of Oshkosh United Way, said.
Some of those calls could be coming from essential workers, like TSA agents who aren’t receiving a paycheck right now.
