MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) - The State Building Commission is expected to vote Tuesday on Gov. Tony Evers’ request for funding on several projects involving Wisconsin prisons.
That includes funds to start planning for the closure of the Green Bay Correctional Institution in Allouez.
Gov. Evers requested the commission release $15 million approved in the state budget to avoid further delays.
GBCI’s closure has bipartisan support, but lawmakers continue to disagree on how and when to close the facility.
State Sen. Andre Jacque (R-De Pere) is in support of closing the prison.
He told us last Thursday he’s working with Democrats and the governor to come to an agreement on the governor’s funding request.
