PEORIA, Ill (WMBD) -- With the recent closing of Kroger on Sterling back in late July, Peoria is left with a food desert in the south end of town.

However, there is a glimmer of hope to restore a void that has been left behind with CJ Harvest Supermarket on Western Ave.

The owner of CJ Harvest, Chuck Brown, said that all the pieces are now in place to finish the store.

"We're excited, our refrigeration has arrived, and we have our building permits going into the city. At this point, it's just a matter of construction," Brown said. "So there's no more obstacles or anything, any barriers, we're well on our way."

Brown was hoping for a September opening, but due to unforeseen roadblocks, the Store has had to delay opening.
