Australian diving champion and local legend Rhiannan Iffland will receive a very unique accolade chosen by Lake Macquarie school students.

Pupils from Belmont Public and Marks Point Public put their heads together recently when tasked with putting a creative stamp on the Belmont Desalination Plant.

The result was the project’s tunnel boring machine to be named after the multi-world titleholder.

Hunter Water managing director Darren Cleary said the honour highlights the strong community connection to the venture.

“Engaging local students in naming the tunnel boring machine is a wonderful way to bring everyone closer to the work we’re doing,” he explained.
