Visions of renewing and re-opening the historic Shepherds Hill Cottage to the community will soon become a reality.
Work is set to start next week on an $850,000 project, enabling the premises to begin its new life as a café.
City of Newcastle (CN) has engaged a heritage consultant to oversee the construction, which includes the installation of a commercial kitchen and cool room as well as upgraded amenities.
A footpath and ramped access to the entrance will ensure the building caters for everyone.
An expression of interest (EOI) process was carried out to select an operator for the locale, with final negotiations underway with the successful applicant.
It’s understood the cafe is expected to open early-to-mid next year.
