CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Plans to redevelop the historic Excelsior Club are getting closer and closer to becoming reality.
Monday night at the Charlotte City Council business meeting, councilmembers voted unanimously to enter a public-private partnership with the developers to restore and revitalize the historic property.
Last week, the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners voted 7-2 in favor of the $8.3 million project.
Several speakers spoke during the meeting, expressing overwhelming support for the project. Residents in the area hope that the new "club" will bring back pride and positivity to the Beatties Ford corridor.
