Police believe a missing grey ute could provide crucial information in the investigation into the alleged murder of a father-of-two in Adelaide's south.

Chris Robertson was found dead at a workshop in the industrial suburb of Lonsdale on Tuesday, September 30.

The 49-year-old was last seen alive days earlier at a celebration with friends for the AFL grand final on Saturday, September 27.

Police said the following day a Mitsubishi Triton utility (XTF976) was seen at a Lonsdale premises on Sunday, September 28.

Police have spoken to the registered owner of the vehicle, who is not believed to be involved in the alleged murder and is assisting police with their investigation.
