CLEMSON, S.C. (WSPA) - Clemson City Council gave a major new housing development project the green light with a 5-2 vote.

City leaders said they made the decision with residents in mind and believe it’s what’s best for Clemson’s future, but some neighbors are calling this the “beginning of the end” for their neighborhood.

"People say well it’s not personal -- but by God -- it is personal,” said longtime resident Vincent Ervin.

The neighborhood dates back to the 1920s, and residents said it’s one of the oldest in downtown Clemson.

Longtime residents like the Ervins say they’ve seen change before, but nothing like this.

His wife, Martha, said the decision has put things in perspective for her.
