LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A local woman's movement is mobilizing to feed families who will be affected by potential changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The Joan Effect organization said it saw the need to stock food pantries as over a half of a million of Kentuckians may lose food stamps, if the government shutdown continues in November.
“How can you hear the numbers of 600,000 people and not feel like we’ve got to do something about that?" Emily Paulin, a member of the The Joan Effect, asked.
About 600,000 Kentuckians rely on SNAP benefits, or food stamps, according to Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
The Joan Effect is launching a food drive to make sure families don't go hungry if the federal money runs dry.
