A Dallas woman’s use of modern tracking technology helped lead police to an alleged auto theft ring after her truck was stolen from her apartment complex.
Maria Pena said her truck was taken from her residence off Churchill Green Drive earlier this month — a theft she’s unfortunately experienced before. But this time, Pena had hidden an AirTag inside the vehicle.
“It works, it really does,” she said. “It doesn’t update 100 percent on the spot, but eventually it will update.”
About a week after the theft, the AirTag began pinging in the 1100 block of Haymarket Road. Pena called Dallas police, who launched surveillance in the area and spotted her truck in a backyard.
“We work so hard for everything that we have. And we’re just out here doing the right thing,” Pena said.
