Bishop David Konderla offered prayers and blessings Monday, as workers prepared to mount new crosses atop Holy Family Cathedral. The installation is part of a $3.2 million roof repair prompted by a 2023 storm.

The two 6' copper clad crosses will replace two atop the lower spires at the front of the building. Each one weighs 75 pounds, according to Edward Almaraz, a project manager with Executive Exteriors. Once the two crosses are installed, work will move to the taller, 250' spire at the back of the building, where a larger cross will be replaced. The three spires are being refaced with copper tiles, and windows are being replaced because of wind damage that toppled one cross off the spire onto Boulder Avenue.
