BEAUMONT, Texas — The city of Beaumont says the owners of the Downtown Lofts have agreed to a work program giving them 150 days to address a list of maintenance code violations, including a broken elevator.

The property, owned by Landmark Property Management Company, was cited by city inspectors last month after numerous complaints about unsafe and unsanitary living conditions.

While city officials say repairs are now underway, some tenants say the problems persist.

Larry Ricord, 63, has lived at the complex for several years and says his apartment remains unlivable due to a broken air conditioner and mold issues.

“I’ve put in about eight or nine work orders,” Ricord said. “It keeps going off, never stays running.”
