SHREVEPORT, La. — It’s one of Shreveport’s most beloved volunteer programs and now it’s on the chopping block.
For 33 years, Paint Your Heart Out Shreveport has helped seniors and low-income residents restore pride in their homes. But with costs topping $497,000 last year, city officials say the budget can’t take another hit.
“We’re hearing rumors that the program is on the chopping block,” said longtime co-chair Paul Pratt, who has overseen the project for more than a decade. “It’s such an important program, not only supporting our seniors, but beautifying our neighborhoods at the same time.”
Pratt said he has worked with thousands of volunteers over the years.
“It’s turnkey for us,” Pratt said. “We look forward to its longevity and another 33 years.”
