RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — It has been a week since an off-duty Raleigh firefighter was struck by a car working at his second job.

Raleigh police are continuing to search for the driver that hit him in the 3900 block of Skycrest Road and continued to drive towards New Hope Road.

Michael Rhodes is now home from the hospital with spirits high as he recovers.

“Just the way I was raised, things could always be worse, but I feel very blessed to be where I am," Rhodes said.

Rhodes was working his second job with TSR Tree Service cutting down tree limbs.

“Stepped out to grab the branch that was cut and got struck by a vehicle," Rhodes recalled.
