GALVESTON
Former District 1 Councilman Tarris Woods said he was wronged when a police officer approached him at a city council meeting Thursday night as he spoke during public comment about his frustrations about not being involved in the announcement of a Juneteenth initiative.
More than a minute after Woods’ microphone was cut, which marked the end of three minutes of speaking time allotted to members of the public seeking to address the city council, an officer entered the room and stepped behind Woods.
Woods quickly stepped away from the microphone and left without further intervention.
Woods blamed City Manager Brian Maxwell for calling the police, saying the move was politically motivated and meant to be a spectacle to damage Woods’ reputation and political candidacy.
