Mesa Councilwoman Julie Spilsbury has amassed a sizable war chest in her battle to keep her seat against newcomer Dorean Taylor, who’s raised about a third of that, according to campaign finance reports.
The all-mail recall election for Council District 2 voters on Nov. 4 was triggered after a resident, with the help of Turning Point USA, gathered more than enough signatures needed to remove the two-term councilwoman from office.
The special recall election will cost the city a minimum of $104,577.
Spilsbury has raised $94,207, according to her finance report filed earlier this month. That’s nearly $30,000 more than what she took in for her re-election campaign last year, when she handily beat her opponent in the July Primary. The councilwoman’s remaining balance was $1,631, according t
