SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -The owner of a Jamaican restaurant in Springfield is leaning on his faith as Hurricane Melissa bears down on the island nation.

Du’Sean Howard runs the Jamaican Patty Company . He says he’s keeping a close eye on the storm.

Howard lived through Hurricane Gilbert in 1988 as a 10-year-old boy. He understands the impact of these storms.

Howard also believes his friends, extended family, and the people there will be strong and meet the challenge.

"We are an island of strong faith, and we are praying for that, you know. Sometimes it seems like things are impossible," said Howard. “We pray a lot in Jamaica. So, hopefully, it won’t be as bad as it’s expected to be."

Howard made a Facebook post Monday , encouraging people on the island to be prepared.
