Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a surge in dog bite incidents, registering more than 200,000 cases in three years, as the state implements a vast sterilisation and immunisation initiative.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah disclosed the figures in response to an Assembly question, revealing Jammu and Srinagar as the most affected areas.

The drive, launched between June 2023 and September 2025, aims to reduce stray dog numbers significantly through expanded sterilisation facilities and newly established Animal Birth Control centres throughout the region.
