COPPELL, Texas — The Coppell ISD board of trustees voted Monday night to keep Town Center Elementary open despite an $8.5 million budget shortfall.
Town Center, one of the district's 10 elementary schools, won't close after the board failed to approve a proposed campus consolidation plan, the district's superintendent said in a letter to parents.
Coppell ISD is facing an $8.5 million budget shortfall in the coming years, WFAA previously reported . Closing Town Center would save about $1.4 million annually. Parents strongly opposed the proposed closure, saying they did not understand the justification for the cuts. Last year, when the district was facing a $6 million deficit, the district voted to close its oldest school, Pinkerton Elementary.
