SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- A man who authorities said was armed with a knife was shot and killed by Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office deputies Monday night during a traffic stop, according to San Jose police.

The shooting occurred just after 7:30 p.m. in the area of College Drive and Fruitdale Avenue, just east of San Jose City College and Sherman Oaks Elementary School. Police have not given any details as to what led to deputies opening fire, or why the man’s vehicle was stopped.

Following the shooting, the man, who has not been publicly identified, was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
