NEW YORK (PIX11) – A New Yorker must make more than $600,000 per year to join the top 5% of earners in the state, according to a new study from GOBankingRates.
The same goes for Connecticut and New Jersey. Connecticut leads all 50 states in the study, with an average income of $637,673 for the top 5%.
The median household income in New York is $84,578, making it the only state listed where residents have to make seven times more to join the top 5% of earners, according to the study.
In another study from GOBankingRates, a person needs to make nearly $200,000 to live comfortably in New York City. Basic necessities for a year cost over $92,000, according to the study.
MIT researchers said the minimum living wage in the Big Apple is just under $70,000.
