New interim State Superintendent Lindel Fields says he was made for the job set before him at the State Department of Education.

He was appointed by Governor Kevin Stitt after Ryan Walters announced his resignation. Fields started the job at the beginning of October and hit the ground running.

"You know how you're in the swimming pool? And you look up and you can see a little bit of sunlight at the top of the water? That was last week," Fields said. "This week, my nose is above water."

It's like a fine balancing act. Fields is getting his footing on what it takes to run a state department while also working to improve a system that isn't making the grade.
